Miss Blackhawk Valley to be crowned tonight - Quad Cities Onlines

The Miss Blackhawk Valley Scholarship Program will begin at 7 tonight at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Moline.

With the theme "Dancin'" the program will feature 2009 titleholders Holley Begyn, Miss Blackhawk Valley, and Brittany Schultz, Miss Blackhawk Valley's Outstanding Teen.

These are the candidates for Miss Blackhawk Valley:

-- Briley Bollinger, a junior at Columbia College, is the daughter of Rock and Joni Caldwell, Viola. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "Tweener Alert! Reach Before Rescue."

-- Jenna Kannenberg, a senior at Illinois State University, is the daughter of Dan and Jolene Kannenberg, East Moline. Her talent is tap dancing, and her platform is "Alzheimer's Disease Awareness and Education."

-- Krystal Kindelsperger, a junior at Bradley University, is the daughter of Kurt and Michele Kindelsperger, Port Byron. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "Everyday Heroes."

-- Kate Longley, a sophomore at Black Hawk College, is the daughter of John and Carol Longley, Aledo. She will perform a comedic monologue, and her platform is "Education for a Greater America."

-- Meghan Loy, a sophomore at Black Hawk College, is the daughter of Toby and Melissa Loy, Port Byron. Her talent is lyrical dance, and her platform is "Do Your Part To Promote a Healthy Heart."

-- Mercedes Rasso, a freshman at Black Hawk College, is the daughter of Antonio and Christina Rasso, Silvis. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "The Music In You."

-- Faith Schenebricker, a student at La'James International College of Cosmetology, is the daughter of Richard Schenebricker, from Jacksonville, and Janis Schenebricker, from East Moline. She is a tap dancer, and her platform is "Pay It Forward: Volunteering To Better the Loves of Others."

These are the candidates for Miss Blackhawk Valley's Outstanding Teen:

-- Abigail Burger, daughter of Thomas and Penny Burger, Illinois City, is home-schooled. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "Helping Animals: Hearing Their Cries for a Better Life."

-- Samantha Kammerman, a junior at Sherrard High School, is the daughter of Tom and Roxanne Kammerman, Milan. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "Literacy for Life."

-- Monica Matt, a ninth-grader at Sherrard High School, is the daughter of Robert and Donna Matt, Viola. Her talent is alto saxophone, and her platform is "Pale Is the New Tan: Teens and Skin-Cancer Awareness."

-- Karen Newlon, a junior at United Township High School, is the daughter of Rick and Janet Newlon, East Moline. Her talent is jazz dance, and her platform is "Breast Cancer Awareness."

-- Stephanie Schultz, a sophomore at Rockridge High School, is the daughter of James and Jane Schultz, Reynolds. Her talent is vocal performance, and her platform is "Underage Drinking Prevention: the Power of Choice."

-- Emily Thomas, a freshman at United Township High School, is the daughter of James and Brenda Thomas, Hampton. She is a tap dancer, and her platform is "Going Green With a Conscience."

-- Kaitlyn Wehr, a sophomore at Moline High School, is the daughter of Denis and Lisa Wehr, Moline. Her talent is jazz dance, and her platform is "Fit for a Crown: Model the Healthy Lifestyle."
