I hardly ever miss the annual Peninsula School District Choral Festival. IÂ'm elated I attended last weekÂ's. Best ever!

The grand finale found 471 student voices clustered together as they represented two of our high schools, all four middle schools and all eight elementary schools in an excitingly explosive outpouring of Â"Sleigh Ride.Â"

Wow!

Guest conductor Brian Galante of Pacific Lutheran University is nothing short of a Houdini. He pulled out the finest performances from every student on stage — even from tykes in the audience who were awed by his infectious magnetism.

GalanteÂ's style is a combination of ballet dancer and trapeze artist. Anyone who wasnÂ't impressed wasnÂ't breathing!

Â"This Choral festival was amazing,Â" said Allie White, a fourth-grader from Artondale Elementary. Â"I think itÂ's really cool to be with lots of other people and give joy to the world!Â"

To Jessa Moomaw, a Harbor Heights Elementary fourth-grader Jessa Moomaw, the festival was a great experience.

Â"A lot of work, but missing recess was worth it!Â" Moomaw said. Â"Everyone loved the songs.Â"

Classmates Ellee Hale and Abby King said their favorite part was singing as Â"one big happy family.Â"

Anna Knott had a wonderful time.

Â"It was so fun!Â" Knott said. Â"I got to play quack-diddle-eeoso with girls from our (Harbor Heights) Orca Singers and other choirs.Â"

Huh?

Goodman Middle School eighth-grader Lilly Shaffer said music is very important to her, and sheÂ's thankful itÂ's part of the public school curriculum.

Â"I have been singing since I could talk, and being able to sing during school really brightens my day,Â" Shaffer said. Â"Our festival went extremely well. Everyone was on pitch, and our three-part harmony really blew me away — and hopefully everyone else!

Â"The fact that all four middle schools got together for only a three-hour practice and sounded like we did is something I am very proud of.Â"

Anthony Bessex, a precocious Harbor Ridge Middle School seventh-grade photographer, crouched on the steps of the stage to take photos, Â"because my two younger brothers were singing,Â" he said.

Â"The performance was so exciting,Â" said Rebecca Resch of Key Peninsula Middle School. Â"Every seat was filled. It was difficult to shuffle (almost) 500 bodies on and off the stage, but we did it! It was an amazing night.Â"

Her chorusmate Mackenzie Mills, Â"really loved all the songs because they were happy and lively. I also liked the guest conductor. He was funny and understandable.Â"

Vaughn Elementary fourth-grader Isaac Stobbe had fun, too.

Â"IÂ'd never heard high school singers,Â" Stobbe said.

Classmate Odessa Aikins said, Â"I will remember this event to share with my kids and grandparents.Â"

Yet the Choral Festival was bittersweet for Peninsula High School senior Melinda Delbo, because it was her last year.

Â"I am devastated to not be able to participate in it ever again,Â" Delbo said. Â"Every year, it has been the highlight of our choir class. This yearÂ's music was amazing, and we really enjoyed working with Dr. Galante. I hope to come back as an audience member in coming years.Â"

Harbor Heights Elementary fourth-grader Gabi Turberville said going up on stage felt like one voice.

Â"Everyone was singing their heart out, and everyone gave it their best shot,Â" Turberville said. Â"To be in Choral Festival again felt awesome.Â"

Classmate Autumn Smith thought the choral festival was a lifetime of fun.

Â"I really felt like I was a great singer and everyone came to see me!Â" Smith said. Â"It was the best thing that happened to me.Â"

Classmate Madi Bosselmann loves each festival because it Â"makes me feel like a big happy family with everybody around me.Â"

Â"I felt too excited to sing, but I did!Â" added Carson Rosi, a fifth-grader. Â"I really liked it when all the schools got up on stage and sang together. It sounded really good.Â"

IÂ'm confident that 85 high school, 161 middle school and 228 elementary singers liked it, too.

My hatÂ's off to our 14 great music teachers. Thanks for a wonderful show!
