Prayer Week to focus on AIDS

ASBURY PARK: Allen Chapel AME Church will observe the National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS March 7-13, to help educate the community about HIV prevention and testing and to help provide care for all people living with HIV and AIDS.

The week is sponsored by the Balm in Gilead Inc., a national organization seeking to have African American churches become centers of support for people with HIV and AIDS.

The Rev. Gerald Bailey, pastor of Allen Chapel, will lead off the week at Sunday's 10:30 a.m. service at the church, 214 DeWitt Ave. On Saturday, March 13, the church will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast with Asbury Park Mayor Ed Johnson speaking at 11:45 a.m. before a dedication of a Living Hope tree. HIV screenings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. weeknights and from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Saturday.

Participants also can take part in individual prayer at 1 p.m. and Bible study on Wednesday, and prayer, a workshop and movie at 6 p.m. Friday. For more information, call 732-463-0560.

Annual benefit dinner, dance

LONG BRANCH: The Seashore School will hold its third annual dinner dance fundraiser March 13 at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa to support the school's drama program and other specialty departments.

There will be dinner, dancing and a chance to bid on auction items ranging from sporting events, golf foursomes, Broadway theater tickets, a New York weekend, Botox basket, spa packages and family excursions to signed sports memorabilia from Seashore alumni Donald Brown.

Tickets are $75 a person. Anyone who would like to purchase a ticket or donate an auction gift can call 732-229-4398.

Women's health screening event

WEST LONG BRANCH: Monmouth Medical Center will present women's health screenings and presentations by women's health experts from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 24 at Branches restaurant, West Long Branch.

The event is sponsored by the Women's Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center.

The free event, which will offer beverages, light fare and door prizes and giveaways, will feature health screenings for blood pressure and cholesterol and information on Monmouth Medical Center programs, including cardiac, surgical, cancer services, bariatric surgery and diabetes education.
