FUNDRAISER

A benefit for softball coach Ed Henry to defray medical expenses will be held this Friday at Jimmy's Allenhurst in Danvers. The fundraiser will feature a DJ, prizes and a 50-50 raffle. Henry has been connected with the local softball scene for more than 30 years. His Bishop Fenwick teams won seven straight state titles from 1990-96. FOOTBALL

Gridiron Training is hosting its 10-week Spring Program from March 15 to May 22. This program trains youth, high school and collegiate football players who want to get ready for the 2010 football season. There are both 2 or 3-day training programs available. CHEERLEADING

The State Ice Hockey Cheering Championship Competition will be held tomorrow at Danvers High School beginning at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.). Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults.

CHALLENGER BASEBALL

Registration for the Spring Challenger Baseball program for District 15 has begun and registration forms can be found at www.danversnats.com by clicking on the link under 2010 season registration. The Challenger program follows the model designed by Little League Baseball and is for children ages 5-18 that have physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities which may prevent them from participating in a mainstream Little League program. There is no cost, and games will be played on Sundays at Tapley Park in Danvers and depending on the number of players in the league, at Harry Ball Field in Beverly. HOCKEY

Adam Clay of Bishop Fenwick was named co-MVP of the Catholic Central League Small this season. He, along with Fenwick teammates Chris Renzulli, Ryan Adamson, Bret Kidik, Bob Liberge and goaltender Blaine Thibodeau were all named league all-stars for the CCL Small champions.

Lynnfield Youth Hockey will be holding tryouts for the 2010-2011 Girls Ice Hockey Program March 17th at 5:15 p.m. March 19th at 6:15 p.m. at the McVann-O'Keefe Rink in Peabody. Tryouts are open to all girls from surrounding communities with birth years 1996-2003. The girls teams will play in the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls League and will play a full 25-game plus playoffs travel schedule with weekly practices and skill sessions. SKATING SHOW

The Viking Skating Club presents the show You Should Be Dancing this Sunday at Salem State College's Rockett Arena (1 p.m.). Admission is $10 for adults while children 12 and under will be admitted free. For more information, call 781-635-3312.

HALL OF FAME

The recently established Ipswich High Athletic Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations for its first induction class, which will hopefully be enshrined this November. Those wishing to nominate former Ipswich High athletes can get nomination forms at the Ipswich High School athletic website; pick them up at the Ipswich High School office or at Town Hall; or get information at ipswichhof@gmail.com.

Tickets for the Beverly Hall of Fame ceremony, which takes place March 27 at the Danversport Yacht Club, are now on sale. They can be purchased at Todd's Sporting Goods, 393 Cabot St, Beverly or by mailing Dave Jellerson at 19 Herrick Street, Beverly, MA., 01945. Tickets are $45 and the deadline to buy is March 20. Include a self-addressed envelope. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

SOFTBALL

The Beverly Girls Softball League has opened registration for the upcoming season. Girls ages 5-14 as of Sept. 1, 2009 are invited. Register online at bgsl.net or in person at one of the three clinics to be held at Beverly High. The clinics will be held at Beverly on March 6, March 13 and March 27, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. for ages 5-6; 2:45-4 p.m. for ages 7-10; and 4:15-5:30 p.m. for ages 11-14. The clinic fee is $20 for all three sessions and registration will take place at the fieldhouse.
