Unlike most mystic societies who conceal the identities of its members and kings, this Krewe freely recognized its king, royal court and members during the night's festivities.

Deriving his name from a composite of Wetumpka, King Wetala reigns as sovereign of the Krewe of Toulouse, which takes its name from Fort Toulouse, a national historic park located in the city.

As grand jester and founder of the Krewe, Shannon Fontaine was crowned King Wetala II during the 2010 coronation ceremony. Ginger Glenn was crowned as his Queen Mysteria, so named by the organization to represent "the wonderful, mysterious and beguiling ways of all women."

Krewe president Leanne Rouse, who presented the 2010 royal court, also introduced this year's maidens of the court Karen Stewart and Nicky Donghia. Griffin Prichard reappeared as a grand duke of the court, along with Brandon Glenn.

Earlier in the night, King Wetala I Larry Blackburn had joined 2009 queen Cheryl Foctman for their final moments as rulers of the Mardi Gras. They took their places on golden thrones covered in red velvet amid a regal setting that included a harlequin and red satin backdrop. They were joined by last year's maidens of the court, Savannah Fontaine and Jessica Shaw, and 2009 grand dukes of the court Griffin Prichett and Jay Goodwin.

A delayed night of dancing

With a new king and queen crowned, the Krewe's members invited their guests to the dance floor to "let the good times roll" amid a party atmosphere that carried out the harlequin color scheme of black, pearl white and red.

Large masks, balloons, red and black beads and feathered plumes adorned tables in the Civic Center, though guests were beckoned from their nearby seats by The Spicolis. The band had been contracted to perform the night before, but graciously agreed to entertain on the alternate night and had the crowd rocking from the first note.

Among the guests enjoying the evening were King Wetala II's wife, Susan Fontaine;
Cathy Willis, wife of the Wetumpka Mayor Jerry Willis; District Attorney Randall Houston and his wife, Stacy; James Houts and his wife, Chanda Houts; and Vicki Bonner Ward and her husband,
Ronnie Ward. Also seen enjoying the evening were Central Alabama Electrical Cooperative CEO Fred Braswell and wife, Sandra; Glynnis and Brian Justiss; and Susan and
Kendrick James.

Dancing the night away after months of planning and hard work were Krewe president Leanne Rouse and her husband, Kenneth; vice president Jay Goodwin and his wife, Debbie; treasurer Jessica Shaw and her husband, Chase; membership chairwoman Tracie Edwards and her husband, Gary; ball chairwoman Karen Stewart and her husband, Mike; and parade chairman Peggy Blackburn, managing editor of the Wetumpka Herald.
