• Surviving Hard Times is a free guide for patrons to easily access resources that could assist them during these difficult economic times. The guide includes pages of information with employment resources, social service links, health care assistance, emergency resources, and help for veterans and seniors. Most of these resources are in Lorain County and Northeast Ohio. Anyone can access the guide by going to alpl.org and clicking on the link, Surviving Hard Times.

• Internet Training â€" Contact the reference department at (440) 933-7710 and set up a beginner’s training session for one-on-one assistance.

• The Avon Lake AARP is offering free tax counseling and return preparation of federal, state and local returns. This service is available for senior citizens and low income taxpayers. This electronic filing service, provided by IRS test certified counselors, is offered 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday through April 14. By appointment only.

• Manga Mania, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2. If you love reading Japanese comics, then this program is for you. Join us as we talk about our favorite books and enjoy Japanese-inspired snacks. For students ages 11-17.
